Simple ways to improve your fuel economy
4 min read
Small habits such as steady speeds and correct tire pressure add up over a year of driving.
You do not need a new car to spend less on fuel. A few habits make a noticeable difference.
Check tire pressure monthly
Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance. Use the pressure printed inside the driver's door, not the number on the tire.
Ease off the accelerator
Smooth starts and steady speeds use less fuel than hard acceleration and braking.
Remove extra weight and racks
Roof racks and cargo boxes add drag. Take them off when you are not using them.
Limit idling
Modern engines warm up fastest by driving gently. Turn the engine off if you will be parked for more than a minute.
